The significance of the Fort Worth Star Telegram review is that there is not a single mention of sound. That is what the goal is. The support the art and remain invisible.

Dallas News – A mix of Mexican and American lives in Fort Worth Opera’s powerful, irresistible mariachi opera ‘Cruzar la cara de la luna’

Dallas News does mention sound, “Appropriate to the mariachi idioms, everything is amplified, but for the most part not too much so. The singing, appropriately blurring classical and folk styles, is by turns stirring and deeply affecting.”

I’ll take this review as a win. The director decided on the general levels he wanted. Enough said.

At the audio level, “Cruzar la Cara de la Luna” fully embraces microphones on the singers and microphones on the mariachi group. The end result speaks for itself.

The Fort Worth Opera production of Cruzar took a lot of pre planning to be ready for the singers and musicians to arrive. The opening night was also simulcast to a local square a few blocks away from the venue (Bass Performance Hall). So as the sound designer for the production I had to build a team of audio engineers that could make it all happen under a tight schedule and less than ideal circumstances. Details to follow…
