Native Instrument’s Kontakt has become one of the industry standards for virtual instruments and sample playback. It can be used as a stand alone app or as a plugin within other virtual instrument / sample playback apps such as Apple’s Mainstage 3. There is a huge catalog of 3rd party sample libraries available for the Kontakt platform so if you find that Mainstage doesn’t have what you need, Kontakt likely has an option.
